Importing a PDF or EPS file

When you are importing a PDF or EPS file through File > Import, there are some options that can improve the quality of your import. If the file you are importing has shaded gradient fills, test the different import methods to achieve best results.

Note: If the imported file contains a transparency, if you select Do Not Rasterize, some data will be lost. This can sometimes show as a black box around part of the image. For example, if alpha bitmaps are not rasterized on import, they will import with a black box around the area that was previously transparent.

PDF/SVG Import Options

Rasterize Convert a vector image into a raster (pixelated) image.
Import text as graphics Import any text in the file as graphics.
Use alternate font location Select a location to load fonts.
Support sub-fonts and embedded fonts During import, enable support for sub-fonts and embedded fonts.
Import pages Select pages to import
Select import method

Select from the following:

  • Default (if unsuccessful, select another method): This method is recommended and should only be changed if the import is unsuccessful. This can happen if there are shaded gradient fills.
  • Double pass: This method increases processing time as there is a double pass prior to import. This method increases the number of objects in the file and can improve import of shaded gradient fills.
  • Reduce shaded fills: This method increases processing time as the program is reducing the shaded gradient fills.
