Variable Data

Use variable data to add text, linked images, and barcodes, and to replace or serialize data.

Import an image and use the toolbar on the left to select, zoom, add text, images, and barcodes, and to run the variable data wizard.

Replacement Data File

For easy replacement, create a replacement data file. If you do not create one, you can replace text in the wizard.

  1. Create a *.csv, *.txt, *.ods, or *.xlsx file.
  2. Add columns of data.
  3. In a text file, use a comma, space key, tab key, semicolon, dollar sign, or custom delimiter. If custom is chosen, you must enter the delimiter.
  4. Save the file.

Page 1: Variable Data Wizard

When your file is ready.

  1. Click the Variable Data Wizard tool.
  2. To load previous settings, click Load settings.
  3. If you are using a replacement file, click Browse to add it, and select the delimiter.
  4. If you are using a replacement file, the copies field will populate automatically, otherwise enter a value.
  5. To send to the queue as a multiple page PDF, select this option.
  6. For each item to replace, select a function (replace, serialize, or none).
  7. For each of the following, select to enable text field options:
    1. Use max text compression on each copy
    2. Use original length as maximum length
  8. To use lines and marks, select this option.
  9. Click Next.

Page 2: Area and Margins

  1. For one copy per blank, select the first option.
  2. To customize the size, select and enter the height and width.
  3. Enter margins.
  4. To group objects per copy, select Group each copy.
  5. Click Next.

Page 3: Spacing

  1. Set vertical and horizontal spacing between each copy.
  2. Select job placement.
  3. Click Next.

Page 4: Text and Linked Image Substitution

  1. To edit a field, click to select the cell to edit.
  2. To move a column to the correct location, click to select the column header, then move the column data using the arrow buttons.
  3. To clear a row, select the row header, then click Clear Row.
  4. Browse for replacement files.
  5. Click Next.

Page 5: Serialization

You can serialize the base value using numeric or alphabetic characters,

  1. To set the base value, highlight a portion of the start value.

  2. To set increments, click and type.
  3. Click Next.

Page 6: Lines and Marks

  1. Use the drop-down list to make a selection.
  2. Use the drop-down list to select a color.
  3. To save the settings used in the wizard, click Save settings.
  4. Click Finish.

The job is sent to the queue.
